Ok, I feel better now... was very annoyed yesterday by UPS.

Best Buy didn't have the new monitor we were getting, so we had them ship it last week. At 3:00pm yesterday I went outside to check the mail, and lo and behold... there's a UPS thingy stuck to the door saying they tried at 1:30pm, while I was sitting at the computer 5 feet from the door (which was shut.) Their idea of knocking on the door must be to glare at it strongly or something. Then when I call on the phone to see if I can pick it up today (the website made it seem that if I had them hold it for pickup it'd only be available tomorrow) the lady on the phone (past the useless automated system) was hardly more communicative than the computer system in the first place! After insisting several times that I wanted to pick it up TODAY, she said someone would call back within an hour. So after waiting about an hour, they call and say it'll be at the main UPS place here in town at 6:00 pm. I drive 9 miles to the place, and at 6:00pm, whata know... they were wrong, it'll be 6:30pm, so now it's time to hang out in front of UPS for 30 minutes (it's in a industrial/commerical area, nothing to do nearby.) And at the end, the best part about it is, they DON'T EVEN CHECK ID! If I was driving around and saw one of UPS's "We're sorry we missed you" stickers on a door, you could pick it up, go online and use the tracking number to figure out everything you need to know to walk up to UPS and take the item yourself!

With FexEx if they miss you, they clearly state on the letter they leave if nobody's home what time the package should be available to be picked up at and the location, along with the aproximate time the next delivery attempt will be make, totally unlike UPS. Plus they actually check ID when you pick stuff up at the office.

I've never had items damaged via UPS, other than the "normal" amount of scuffing and smushed corners of boxes, although I have personally seen deliveries to people I know where the boxes looked like someone used them to sit on or something.

UPS is the absolute worst. I refuse to buy something from an online store if fedex isn't an option. Literally every single time I have used UPS it has been a nightmare.

FedEx if at all possible. As for the worst: US Postal Service. You might get it fast or it might take 50 years. Tossup

I've seen similar tracking sheets with DHL. I remember one from Taiwan to here. It arrived at London Heathrow about 8 hours after collection (local times), stayed four days there (holiday weekend), was sent to Brussels and stayed there another day, then to Athens (luckily , that was the day the airport was open without a strike), then to Larnaca whence it went by truck to Latsia (passing within a few hundred m of my front door in doing so). The Latsia office phoned me to collect from there. Then, because I told them to deliver it, they trans-shipped it to Strovolos. In the meanwhile, I'd started to go to Latsia, but a phone call told me it was back in Larnaca (again passing near us). Finally, after numerous phone calls, I traced it to Strovolos, where I picked it up, 10 days after it was collected and ~80 km of my mileage for a door-to-door service. This was not an isolated instance. This kind of thing has happened at least 10 times with DHL, I have had similar problems with FedEx.

The other day, Ulead in Germany sent me a CD-R. It was delivered to my door the following evening. By UPS. Which service is best. This was also not unique. Even a packet from the UK with customs duty and VAT to pay was delivered within 36 hours by UPS

No doubt about it, UPS every time.
