  • GM accelerates Volt & Hydrogen Volt

    The Detroit media just flashed that GM is re-assigning more than 500 engineers from research to manufacturing for their VOLT/E-Flex project.

    Most will be targeting early production of the 5th generation "Hydrogen Volt" fuel cell powered system unveiled at Shanghai a few weeks ago.

    (Detroit News) ..."This says, 'Not only have we done it in a lab, we're ready to do it for real,' " said Larry Burns, GM's vice president for research and development. "We have worked on this fuel cell technology long enough and hard enough to be able to start to move this into production."

    Lots of analysts are saying the Hydrogen Volt may even be the first to market.

    Also: GM's Lutz is now saying to the Ann Arbor Business Review that the plug-in version of the Volt will;

    1. cost less than $30,000

    2. travel 750 miles/tank when using fuel...which it doesn't have to do until the 40 mile battery charge is depleted (upgrade from 640 miles)

    3. GM plans to spend $500 million to get Volt on the road in early 2010 (Auto News)

    4. charge in 6 hours using a 110v line

    Sounds like the boys are serious
