  • The Witch of November

    SS Edmund Fitzgerald 729 ft (222.2 m)
Lost November 10, 1975 on Lake Superior (Gichigami in Ojibwe)

Those not from the Great Lakes states have no idea of their scope, or the power they can unleash, and may wonder how such a huge ship like the Edmund Fitzgerald could be suffer its fate in waters not as deep as the Fitz was long.

Those who have seen the Witch of November, the great fall storms, know that the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was far from the worst the Great Lakes have dished out, fully understanding the tremendous dangers that can come with their great beauty.

Each November they remember the Fitz, thinking with heavy hearts about those 29 brave souls and their great ship. They wonder, as Gordon Lightfoot did, "does anyone know where the love of God goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours...." And they pray for them, their families, and those still sailing the mighty Great Lakes.
