I loved Jon Stewarts' coverage of the coverage on this. Not sure which date, watched clip through mobile.

Many reporters clearly joined the March To Keep Fear Alive...

Yes, quite an astute observation that whenever there is an absence of an official and believable explanation, people tend to believe whatever they want to have happened. I suppose the choice of scenario tells something about the personality of its supporter.

And there are always the Elvis and UFO supporters!

Not if he has knowledge that launching a missile like this won't trigger US detection systems (for example, maybe due to the direction being away from the land). I can imagine Putin meeting Obama and casually saying, "Hey Mr. Obama, I think we forgot to tell you that we had a missile test in the pacific last week. I'm sure you don't mind too much about these trivial matters."

This is another video, different to the CBS one, from a link, from the page DR linked to above.

It does show another perspective if its the same day/time.
Would have to look at both videos side by side very carefully.

Even the Iranians know how to use Photoshop (badly), and we all know that videos can lie, as can photos.
    Who do you trust ?

edit : feck, half 3, must go to bed.

If guessing I'd say only Russia (Putin) would have the balls to pull off a mad stunt like this.

If that was a contrail from a plane, that plane was seriously on fire, and pollutes like no other.

Do they think everyone is stupid ? Why not just blame it on Bin Laden ? or Iraq (oh sh*t, done that already)

It was Kim Yong Il's last wish That'll do.

edit : even better " You're looking at it wrong!"

CNN is reporting that this is the story they're going with. Supposedly a jet was flying towards the coast and a perspective related optical illusion made it appear to be flying up. The sunset backlighting its contrail enhanced the effect.

Then again, it could be that swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflecting the light from Venus
