    Beowolf

I had a friend of mine recently tell me about this little program...It sounds very very cool, does anyone know anything about it? all that i know at the moment is that it allows you to (somehow) hook up your computers "off the shelf" and allow them to work as one machine in a parallel type processing kinda scheme, or so I'm told...

All I know about BeoWulf is that it's the title of a crapy movie with Christophe Lambert being the knight in shiny armor facing a monster-that-couldn't-have-enough-gore. :P

          I notice there's an FAQ at http://www.beowulf.org

I looked into this a while ago. AFAICT, 'Beowulf' isn't a single program or packages, but more just a general term for a parallel-processing Linux cluster. Most people are probably using PVM or something like that in their Beowulfs.

          Hope this helps.
