Progressive Scan

Hello Everyone

I read somewhere that some digital camcorders have a'progressive scan' mode and that shooting in this mode results in higher quality video for desktop use. If i remember correctly this is because frames are not interlaced.

Can anyone tell me more about this or point to some info on the web? Do all digi cams come with this option? Is it better? How does it work? Is it for both PAL and NTSC

Yeah, the Canon XL-1 has a progressive scan feature. However, it reduces the frames per second to 25. The result is a more film-like look.

The lower end Canon DV's like the Elura and Optura also do progressive scan.

I have a sony Trv900 dv,it also has such feature but I would not use it unless I need to have it as a print-out ( a photo for your greeting card ).If u want to have a certain frame u like and want to have it print out. I would set it up otherwise it is hard to shoot with such low frames. IF you are shooting still,it is great since it will have a better print-out but don't try that with motion. Just like looking thought a pair of drinking glasses..it is hard to focus. Hope it help.

Digital 8 in slow shutter mode can work in progressive scan at 25 fps.
