Simple MPEG question

I have a G400 MAX, and I was wondering how whether I should just get a DVD-ROM drive or the Creative DxR3? Does the creative have much better image quality?

No, the picture is not much better, some claim worse. However, the Dxr3 (IMHO) is better when output to large TV. Also, you don't need a fast processor with the Dxr3 as the card itself decodes the MPEG stream rather than your CPU.

I have a dual-head G400, but prefer to use my Dxr2 card for DVD playback.
