This product release, although only a few days along, seems to be producing a lot less noise from complainers than the DV500 so far.

Hi Ant,

The first one is the worst, as the posts are all over the place, requiring you to have a look at the date of each message, and remember when (at US time) you were there the last time.

The UBB boards, well nothing much is happening there, and Baileys board doesn't allow you to edit your own posts.

Yeah, I agree with Pertti,

But you know something...overall the board has kept everybody interested in the RT2000 together as has helped people to resolve the usual little problems etc.

I go there every once in a while to help out now that the RT2000 has been released.

The main reason I see people complaining about the DV500 is because..
A) They didn't include too many RT transitions so the DV500 has to render almost everything.

B) Installation is still a major problem.

C) It is strictly a DV editing board

D) Incompatibilties with other video cards

I can go on

The RT2000 has shown that it can do slow motion and speed video up in realtime, A TON of RT transition like (3D, organic, page curls etc)
And the RT2000 can edit and capture in both DV nativaly and MPEG2 as well.

I only posted this thread topic because I found now that people are getting their RT2000's, there doesn't seem to be much posting going on about it anywhere at all, except for those three boards. Just from that, alone, I'd have to say that even the mightily ignorant and naive new users of RT2000 are having less problems than their counterparts who first bought the DV500. By comparasin, the mightily ignorant and naive pissers and moaners who bought DV500 took about three weeks to finally figure out how to install and use it, while their counterpart RT2000 newbies seem to number less than a handful, and have only made a small bit of noise. Granted, it's only a few days since the first lot went out, but if there were problems, the noise would've been all over the place. I may be premature in saying so, but it indicates to me that RT2000 was worth the wait, and the first wave of users are simply making video, rather than posting about it.

I just got my RT2000. The manual is superb. They make it quite clear when parts of the install have to be done a specific way. They take you by the hand the whole way. There is no guessing.

I just ran into one snag. Once the codec card is installed, you are supposed to set the RT2000 as the preferred playback and record device in Control Panel ==> System ==> Multimedia. My problem was that the RT2000 didn't even show up here. I tried increasingly drastic things to try to fix this because the manual says it is necessary for lip sync. I finally tried changing PCI slots of devices and removed my Live! sound card. I reinstalled on a formatted disk (i.e. reinstalled Windows98SE) without the sound card and the RT2000 still didn't show up in Multimedia. Having tried everything I could think of, I decided to just continue with the install. I added the Live! card and continued.

I just got it going last night and did some limited capturing at the highest quality in MPEG2. My new 40GB 7200RPM Maxtor easily handled it. I captured a few clips, put in some realtime transitions and the result was breathtaking. I also captured a 60 minute clip to check on lip sync. The sync was perfect.

Having it set to your normal soundcard, is the way it should be.

Thank you Pertti. That is good news. I had figured that sooner or later a problem would crop up due to the "misconfiguration." You have given me peace of mind. Now I will go look for that release note...

This confusion was due to a last minute change. Such things can happen with any product so reading the release notes can be VERY important. Espcially with such a complex product as the RT-2000.

After a flurry of activity at the end of last year from Matrox sending out PR material it's all gone very quiet. They didn't even send the RT2000 launch press release to us.

Yeah, I received the notice of the RT2000 release from MATROX by E-MAIL, yesterday. Go figure?!?

Now is showing in the MATROX store, but not available yet. Oh boy. One step behind themseves.
