Apologies to BobC but it makes no mention of Digital 8 and it's ability to convert analogue to digital i.e record from a VHS recorder with DV in enabled http://www.lynxdv.com/jp.html nor the now available ADS Pyro firewire cards with MS Pro 6 VE.

It's not my intention to start a D8/DV battle yet again but you can always look at http://amazing.freelink.net/dv/digital8.html to see why.

The page is possibly too old to mention Pyro.

Ok, I think we can all agree that we would all like to use cameras like the XL1 or GL1, but for some of us that is really not an option.

I have been using a PAL Sony TR-7000 (which has better resolution than the NTSC one) for a while now, and the camera performs much better than I expected.

NO WAR DECLARED

For value for money and features D8 is ahead of the rest IMHO. I don't suffer tape drop outs, I have better quality than any other format I have seen, if you discount the lense type the recording quality is the same as the top DV cameras.

I accept that 3 CCD cameras are better but they cost more. For £700 (UK) you can have a Dig8 with colour LCD (Dv in enabled) & ADS Pyro Firewire for lossless editing (incl No dropped frames) with VS v4 & MS Pro 6VE.

The film people want to watch depends on the content, the kit I have described can provide the quality.
