    win xp and marvel G400

    Hi !

You've probably talk about that a long time ago but I'm new here so i'll ask anyway !

I'm on Win XP Pro (french) with Marvel G400 and someone said to me that I simply have to use the Win2k drivers (539 with tools vt204) and everything should work (exept the Rec. bouton on the remote)

    but...................

I install the 539 display drivers (ok powerdesk) and after rebooting I install the vid tools vt204 but the Installation Wizard quit before finishing so it doesn't install at all !!!!

What do you suggest me.... older Win2k drivers ?????

I really have to use video capture and would like to play dvd full screen on my TV again and watch Tv on my PC again !!!!!!!!!! That's why I bought this $ card...

    Thanks

    Hi Flagg

I suggest you download the Wise Installer version of the 2.04 vidtools. You can find these on my homepage: http://home.planet.nl/~editor. Carefully read the instructions. The Wise Installer will not be interrupted by XP. The installed files are identical to the original Matrox Vidtool 2.04 package.

        Hi,

You don't have to read Dutch. There is a small error in the url: just leave away the period (.) at the end. It was embedded in the url by mistake.

          Thanks it works !

The vidtools are ok, I can watch TV with the remote but there's no Record button.....
Which 3rd party sorfware do you use to capture ?
(I was using the Remote with Win ME but now ???)

The 539 display are ok too Dvd Max working OK (i had to Install Power DVD 3.0).

Could I NOT Install the vidtools (use power VCR for TV tuning and capturing) and Power DVD for DVD, install just the display drivers (including Power Desk for dvd max and clone) ???????
          Will something be missing ????

Since we never now what Matrox do with our 500 $ Marvel

          Thanks a lot !!!

            Hi,

I'm glad it works. I use Avi_IO to capture Huffyuv or DivX and Ulead Video Capture from MSP6 to capture mpeg1 and 2.
I don't have any experience with PowerVCR. Is it any good in combination with Marvel? I recently trialled NanoVR, which is something similar but it caused too many frame drops. As far as I know, Ulead vidcap is the only mpeg capture app that works well with Marvel. Any comments on this, fellow MURCers?

              Hi Landrover,

I will be obliged if you can explain this part of the instructions further:

              -run regedt32
              highlight HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
              CurrentControlSet\Enum
click on Securities/Permissions, add everyone to "full control"

              Thanks.

                Hi Debbie,

This is to ensure that you have administrator rights when installing the vidtools. Otherwise you won´t be able to add the regfile to the registry and the installation will fail. XP is very strict and troublesome with users and their rights.

                  Thanks Landrover,

I have sorted it out yesterday and is working quite well. I have no problems with TV capture
                  I am using AVI_IO as a replacement for PC-VCR.

                  Regards,

                  Debbie

                    Can anybody help?

I am running windows xp pro, and there doesn't appear to be a "securities/permission" key in my registry tree under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\

                    Thanks,

                      thanks,

Tr a 3rd party capture program like Virtual Dub or avi_io. If they don[t work than you are probably going to have some problems. avi_io is the best $25 program out anyway and everyone should have it.

                          Guys,

                          I'm new here. . .

Very helpful thread this. I also have another workaround for you. If you install the video drivers for the G450 in XP onto your XP box with the G400 installed, it correctly finds the G400 and installs ok. This then allows you to actually use Video tools 2.10 straight off the download page with no modifications needed to the package. It means you can now use the current version of the video tools with your G400.

However. . . The record button is still missing. Seems a shame. The help file states 'Recording may be unavailable with certain Matrox prodcuts'. Again a shame since it used to be there under 98. . .

So, I suppose it's Avi_IO for me. Anyone know where you get it from ?

                          Thanks

avi_io is a much better capture tool anyway. PC-VCR does not lock the framerate as well and avi_io also keeps A/V sync much better. It is the only capture tool for the G400 that I would use. $25 is not a very high price for excellent capture results.
