    OK, that works good, thank you.

    I also want to edit the MPEG2 clip I am starting with, should I be able to do the same in virtualdub? It won't let me open a MPEG2 clip.

      yw, nope, virtualdub doesnt support mpeg2, file must be an avi wraper afaik.

          Commercially there is Uleads VideoStudio. The full version of 6.0 is just under $100 USD, but earlier versions come bundled with everything from cheap IEEE-1394 cards to basic analog cards. My son even got a version with one of those $40 pen-styled digital still/movie/web cameras. You might want to check around and see if someone still has their CD.

            Yup, I'm using 6.5 however, it is painfully slow to recompress the whole file... not forgetting the quality loss.
            Is there a quick hack I can do to shorten the file? (like how virtual dub does a direct stream copy)
