These numbers are BS based on the ~35 standalone players I've tested, 32 of which were bought last Xmas or earlier.

My results: DVD-RW & DVD+RW ~10% compataible
DVD-R about 40% compatible. DVD+R marginally better.

I define compatible if:

1) FF/REV and chapter navigation works as expected
2) 30 minutes of continueous video plays glitch free.


Cheapest players I know about that advertises DVD-RW and DVD+R compatability is Sony NS315 at bout $140.


My advice, buy neither to force the industry to get their shit together!

That Intellikey 90% figure for DVD+R is absolutely bogus, in my opinion.

When I tested the Pioneer DVR-7000's DVD-R output, it would play in every single device we tried.

The same could not be said of the Philips DVCR 985 DVD+R disc that we created.

The DVD+R disc - in our experience - played in only about 75% of the devices we tried.

We found that the brand of the machine used to create the DVD-R disc *mattered.*

The Pioneer DVR-7000's DVD-R discs were far more compatible on DVD-ROM drives than the DVD-R discs or DVD+R discs generated by the Philips DVCR 985 and the Panasonic DMR-E20.
