    xVCD and xSVCD? - PLEASE RESPOND

    Basically:

    Do you want support for out of spec bitrates in any authoring and editing software you purchase?

    A simple YES or NO without "explative deleteds" please :-)

          NO for authoring.

          Compatability in standard players is bad enough without having software help you make out of spec disks!

          YES for Editing. Its presumptious to limit what the editor might be used for. Out of spec means little if only computer playback is the target.

          Encoding should clearly warn if a DVD standard template is chosen and settings later adjusted to be out of spec.

              Even though 'X' compatable players are commonplace among videophiles? Here in the US the APEX decks are the #1 sellers even among non-videophiles and they play everything.

              I'm sure other Chinese decks are commonly used in Europe and Asia by videophiles.

                  My Apex most certainly does not "play everything". Totally dead to DVD-RW and DVD+RW Glitches badly on DVD-R to the point of being pretty useless (about once every 6-8 minutes) and generally glitches a couple of times an hour on DVD+R.

                  I've heard they've removed VCD capabilty from recent models.

                      They have, mainly because the 3$ licensing fee is a pretty big chunk at their price point, but the issue still stands for xSVCD, which many people prefer given the DVD-R/+R compatability issues.
