All DVD players/drives READ dual layer. I think it is part of the original DVD spec.Comment

MMM is right, as far as commercial DVDs are concerned. I have very strong doubts about whether they will resolve the smaller contrast differences of DL DVD±Rs and, even less, RWs, though. Wait and see!Brian (the devil incarnate)

IMO compatability will always be an issue until all DVD decks have DVD-R/DVD+R compatabile chipsets.
That said it'll sure make it easier to get high quality and 120 minutes of content at once.
