AVI at 23.976fps to MPEG-2

I'm just about to convert an AVI movie with a frame rate of 23.976.

TMPGEnc will convert the frame rate to 29.97 and would make the horizontal movment slightly jurky.

At 23.976fps it will be quite smooth but then authoring it in UDVDW will convert it back to 29.97. Is there a solution to this?

perform 3:2 pulldown through repeat_first_field flags. Be sure not to perform 3:2 pulldown through hardcoding it, as it's a waste of bandwidth (and a bitch to convert to progressive output in realtime)!
