You are right, they don't use avi. The board captures analog (or digital) to DV via software from FAST, and from FAST into Premiere. Premiere 6.0 support is scheduled to be out soon. It looks like they are waiting for the European release of Premiere 6. Win2000 support is available since Dec. and I have not seen a single complaint!!!

FAST makes professional video editing software and seems to have an excellent reputation. The reviews are great, and complaints on the forums I have visited fairly small, at least compared with other products.
The FAST software has some features I was looking for, like scene detection. But I am also worried about the proprietary nature of the capture format.

I just got a DVMC-DA2, and I'm very unhappy.. I spoke to Sony, and it seems like it won't output widescreen video.. On top of this, I get a lot of "juddering" during horizontal motion on the screen, even with clips that play fine on the PC.. If these issues can't be resolved, I definitely can't recommend it.

I am not sure that anyone used the DA2 together with a Pyro card?

I got the following answer from Pyro:
"Im sorry that the converter box are not supported for the Pyro. We have
heard from some end users that it works in some systems".

Strange, why would it work in some systems and not in others....?

The "works in some systems, but not in others" is where you have the problem of the software expecting a camcorder to be present, and do a particular handshake to find out the position on the tape. It seems to me that there ought to be a way around that, but I've been lazy and haven't researched it on this end, lately. Like I said in my earlier post, capture with MSP6 is no problem, but timeline playback wants the handshake. I do recall wangling things around in earlier setups when I first got the DVMC-DA2 to get it to play out, but I don't remember what I was doing.

Jeff, if I understand you correctly, you had no problems capturing the DV data stream from the DA2, but you were not able to get the edited video back to tape using the DA2?

Yes, the capture was trouble free using MSP6, but timeline playback was problematic. It had worked once or twice, and I don't know what I did to make it work. It was one of those "Gee, what am I forgetting?" type of things. When I found that I could always get it to work with the camcorder giving the software a handshake, I abandoned trying to figure it out. Just laziness, I would say.

Please forgive me but I'm confused:

If I purchase a new Sony DVMC 2 DV converter, then I have NO WAY to get the edited DV files back out of my Mac G4 onto a consumer grade VHS video recorder? (This sounds like a major Sony SNAFU).

I have Premiere 5.1 but I DO NOT have any type of camera.

converted both the anolog audio and vidio to digital AT THE SAME TIME and vice versa?
