Question About Windows Media Player

I used Ulead DVD Workshop to create a DVD featuring an MPEG AUDIO track.

When I attempt to play this DVD, Windows Media Player will play the video, but not the MPEG AUDIO.

Of course, the Ulead DVD Player and Cyberlink's PowerDVD both play the audio.

I thought Windows Media Player had the ability to play MPEG AUDIO.

Does anybody know for certain?

do you have AC3-filter installed? If yes, it´s output can be switched to spdif, leaving you with no sound on the speakers.
Otherwise, to my knowledge WMP (10, I presume) shouldn´t be giving any problems decoding mpeg-audio.

Well, I don't have SPDIF enabled in the Windows Media Player.

But MPEG AUDIO on my DVD still doesn't play in the Windows Media Player, but it plays fine using PowerDVD or the Ulead DVD Player.

The DVD plays fine when I use the REAL Player.

I wonder if the REAL Player somehow impacts the Windows Media Player?

REAL doesn't seem to affect anything on my systems, but then I'm using WINDVD. No problem with WMP (or anything else) in playback.

I wonder if the Windows Media Player has the ability to play MPEG AUDIO DVDs.

The reason I ask is the Microsoft Web site gives you the option of downloading "DVD decoder plug-ins" for a fee.

Doc, have you SPECIFICALLY tried playing a DVD that you've created using MPEG AUDIO?

I have tried Hollywood DVDs and Windows Media PLayer plays those without a hitch.

It is only when I use a self-created DVD using MPEG AUDIO that my latest version of Windows Media Player fails to play the audio.

The purchase of DVD decoding plug-ins is applicable only if you don´t have any other DVD playback software on your system. The decoding engines of apps like WinDVD and PowerDVD should integrate with WMP, but I get the impression that there are some flaws concerning installation routines. When starting WMP10 for playing back a DVD compatible MPEG-2 file, at first I´ll get some "codec error" message, but then the file will play back fine.
I suspect if I´d reinstall WinDVD over WMP10, the problem would disappear but I haven´t felt the need for it.

I had an identical problem. The way I solved it was to place the WinDVD Audio filter inside system32 and register it so WMP was able to find it.
Unless you want to install WinDVD or another DVD player.
