G450 and macrovision

I have searched the forums for info. on addressing macrovision issues with the G450, but haven't found anything. Are there any known patches or workarounds?

I apologize if the answer is out there and I missed it.

450eTV is still brand new to the market, so I don't think anyone's addressed this yet.

If you are experiencing problems capturing from home-shot footage then you need to be contacting Matrox tech support with details so they can look at the MV triggers in their drivers to make sure that they aren't being triggered prematurely.

If you are trying to copy MV copyrighted material then shame on you.

I do not have the 450eTV. To the best of my knowledge it is just the 450. All I have tried to do is copy a DVD so the kids could watch it on the VCR in their room. I thought as long as you owned an original you were cool.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if the new Marvel G450e-TV has a better tuner than the older Marvel G400? That was one of the complaints that steered me away from the older model.

I can't say how it compares to the G400, but I can say that the E-TV tuner works just fine. It even tunes in a channel that I was worried about because the OTA channel leaks thru it.

If you have videocapture capabilities then it's an eTV. If you are using it to play a DVD out to VCR then it could be a G450. Macrovision doesn't know whether you bought the DVD or not

Can you explain how you are trying to do the copy ?

I am outputting s-video from the G450 through a S-VHS VCR via s-video. S-video outputting from vcr to TV. Macrovision doesn't cause me problems with picture quality at all at the TV (even when trying to record), but scrambles the signal being recorded. Based on what I have read on this forum, at least for other cards there is a patch. Will the same patc work here?

I think the solution can be the Video Stabilizer pass-thru box that sells for $30.

I think I'm gonna get one and try it out. It is suppose to stabilize any video source and removes the macrovision crap. The only bad thing is it only handles RCA and not S-Video.

This is the lowest price I've found and from my research some people claim this one works.
Many cheap ones out there just don't.

I think it can make those rented/DVD video stablize and eliminate the color problem with macrovision.

This one does S-VHS out too, so I ordered one.

I'll have a review when I get it but I think passthru is the only way to fool it.

Would this help clean up old VHS tapes? Is it legal to buy? I'd like to get something to help with some old VHS tapes I have, but I don't want the police knocking on my door like they did to people who bought cable descramblers.

Well, back in the old days, the only protection they used was the brightness problem that prevented people from duping tapes with 2 VCRs. Now, they encoded macrovision.

As I read in some user's recommendations, these video clarifiers and stabilizers are suppose to digitally control the color tinting, glaring, and picture jitters.

SIMA is a respectable company is the video editing business, so I trust this device they put out. If the device cleans up the source that goes in my Matrox with a cleaned up or filter source, it should be able to fool the triggers that are built into the Matrox drivers.

I will have to wait until mine shows up at the door and try it. I may need one anyway to capture DVD videos anyway.
