Bug (?) in DX8 might hurt captures

Browsing vid utilities I came across something called the Direct X Control Panel at: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/misc.html
Gave it a look, and read about a "bug" in dx8 that automatically sets the debug level to medium. Setting it to the recommended less does seem to have a positive effect capturing video.
