M-Audio and X100 anyone know why not?

    Hi folk,
have just acquired an X100 and looking for a decent sound card to go with it.
Looking on Matrox compatability lists and they say ALL M-Audio cards are a no-no.
Does anyone know why this is so, or have a contrary experience or other info on this combination?
    TIA

The issue, as I understand it, is PCI bus saturation.

The card that Matrox reccommends is the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.

    It's not very expensive.
    P.S. You've been Spanked!

Suprised at their statement about the M-audio cards. Use 'em in 3 systems here and don't see a sign of PCI problems. Hmmmmm......

        Thanks for that Doc.
The Audiophile 2496 is the one I am rather keen on - have a choice of chipsets to pair them with - Intel 875, 865 or NF4 Ultra/SLI. (All ASUS boards)
Do you have any tips here? or better yet direct experience?
(I know, I'm worse than the cops - I want to know everything)
        - but my experience with computers in general is; that it is what they do not tell you that causes most of the headaches.
I learn enough things the hard way as it is - so if I can save myself some head-banging by asking questions of those who may have tried before, then I would like to.
        Many thanks for your input.

I'd have to know more about what Matrox did in their testing before proceeding. I'll drop a note and see what shakes.

If you go here: http://forum.matrox.com/rtx100/ you can post your config ideas in the "Pre-Sales Questions" Forum (doesn't require registration) and see what they think.
