I just bought the DVICO device from Snapstream:

I tested the device using a GATEWAY 7426gx notebook, which is the following GATEWAY model:

So far, it works like a charm.
There are two (2) antennas.
The big antenna doesn't seem to work as well as the small collapsible antenna.
But the software from DVICO (called FUSION) seems to work well.
It lets you tune to both analog and free, over-the-air DIGITAL channels.
I've programmed it to ignore the analog signals and pick up the DIGITAL channels only.
Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0's VIDEO CAPTURE program apparently can only be used with the ANALOG channels, unfortunately.
I understand the video capture module in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5.0, however, does support the DIGITAL capture.

Forgot to add:
You can still record from DIGITAL channels using the included software from DVICO.
It seems to work fine.

I guess since your getting an mpeg 2 stream anyway just dumping it on your hdd is good enough, unless you want to transcode it on the fly.
I usualy just cut out the cruft and burn the mpeg 2 stream to a dvd when I use my pci dvd-t card for recording...no recompressing, just a stream copy.

I'm hoping that the Canadian TV broadcasters will embrace cablecard. I'd love to have HDTV input to my MCE2005 PC (which I plan to covert to a HTPC in about a year) via a cablecard based adapter. Supposedly, ATI's USB based cablecard adapter is ready to go (just waiting for Vista for OS support) and they are working on an ethernet based version.P.S. You've been Spanked!
