That HDR-SR1 (hard disk model) looks quite decent to me.

I suspect I'll be buying it.

There are some new photos on the AkihabaraNews.Com Web site at the following link:

PC WORLD magazine offers more detail about the DVD model here:

      http://tinyurl.com/g9s88

"In the camera's highest resolution recording mode, about 27 minutes of video can be stored on one disc."

I would assume they're talking about 27 minutes of 1080i.

I suppose you could fit more 720p on the same disc.

It would be nice to see some official specifications from SONY.

"These are the first consumer camcorders to record in full 1080i HD resolution".

              Hummm, interesting.

Remember that HFX1 and Z1 are recording at 1440x1080 or similar, but NOT FULL HD resolution. Well, they records HDV, a little bit less than HD.

              New codecs, new options.

Anything over 720 lines is "HD." So720p, 1080i, and anamorphic 1080i (1440x1080) or technically "HD."

Someday we'll have hopefully affordable HD cams at the "holy grail" of all resolutions and frame rates in my opinion, 1080/60p.

I'd like to know a couple of things about the new HDD camcorder.

                  1. Will it record 60fps 720p?

                  2. Will it record to either SDTV or EDTV resolutions as an extra alternative?

                    Some news...

CamcorderInfo.com's David Kender got some new information out about the HDD AVCHD model from Sony:

"We can report that the HDR-SR1 has four high definition quality settings and three standard definition quality settings."

"The HD settings are as follows:

                    - XP (15 Mbps),

                    - HQ (9 Mbps),

                    - SP (7 Mbps),

                    - LP (5 Mbps)."

"The SD settings, which are in MPEG-2, include:

                    - HQ (9 Mbps),

                    - SP (6 Mbps),

                    - LP (3 Mbps)."

"All bit rates are variable rather than fixed."

                        DV format is "deprecated".
