Avid Offers Media Composer As Software Only

Link to Government Video magazine article: http://tinyurl.com/2vo7uz

Avid Technology's Media Composer 2.5 is the new, software-only configuration of the Media Composer product family. It's the first time Avid has made the software available separate from its Adrenaline hardware.

As is the usual case with Avid, the system requirements are pretty steep:

Your PC needs at least dual 3.4 GHz Intel Xeon processors, Windows XP Professional, and a minimum of 2 GB RAM (3 GB is recommended). In Apple land, you'll want a Power Mac G5 with quad 2.5 GHz processors (or at least dual 2.0 GHz processors) and Mac OSX 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. If a laptop is used, a PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz fits the bill, with the same memory requirements as a PC.
No, it's not good news for any of Avid's competitors on the PC platform.

And, on the Mac platform, some individuals might take a look at this alternative before buying Final Cut Studio.
