So i downloaded this program tonight to figure out how to do HDR images for fun...

they aren't as good as peoples hdrs that I've seen, but they did turn out kinda neat. Some a little too saturated, but the process is fascinating.

So below is what ive done to some ordinary pictures using this software

Did you use 2 different exposure images like it says on the site or can you recombine 2 different filtered images of the same single original?.

It certainly seems to brings the colour to life, perhaps maybe a bit surreal. ( the crappy monitors at work make it hard to tell)

heres what i did for the last one.. on all of them I used the same image just messed with the adjustments in photoshop to have more images.

took the brightness all the way up



took the brightness all the way down



took the saturation up really high



tipped the color balance to yellow a lot




I added all those to the HDR batch and played with the filters inside the program..
resulted in this

ok i think this hdr thing is really good for taking otherwise "throwaway or delete" pictures to semi decent pictures

liz, you do realize that you are supposed to take two different (under/overexposed) pictures, and combine them afterwards, to extend the range of brightness-levels in the final image?
if you just change the brightness of one picture o start with, you don't get more details in the highlights/the blacks - unless you are using 12/16bit raw files from the camera.

still, the effect is interesting...

yes, ive done a couple of them like that... just wanted to play around with other tones and colors and such

Looks nice, but as Wulfman said, not HDR. You essentially increase contrast and use unsharp masking with a large radius (which increases local contrasts, resulting in the halo effect most visible in the bridge picture).

well since I learned about this at midnight lastnight... I haven't exactly had the time to go take new shots yet, so I improvised with the shots I already had.

Here's a few HDR photos I've taken:

The first is subtle, just enough to help keep the very bright sky from washing out the thin branches, and was done manually:



The next ones used the HDR merge function in CS2:








In all cases I used Hugin to align the images first.
