CNR Modems

I have a friend who is looking for a CNR modem to put into his P4 machine, because he's out of PCI slots (long story). Far as I can tell they only have them in prebuilt systems and don't sell them out on the general market. Any comments on where I can get one for him?

I'd almost rather use an ISA modem. I never saw a reason for AMR or CNR. Don't these require the system chipset or processor to run the modem?

Yep. They steal bus time and CPU time.

The best modems made to date are still US Robotics ISA modems. For some reason their PCI chipset just sucks compared to their ISA chipset.

I know they suck, and I have told him this already. He already has a network card for I-net access, but wants a modem for Faxing, plus its not like he doesnt have 2 other PCs to fax with

Of course, the only things you really pay for when buying a modem are packaging and useless crap software anyway. Except for maybe the newest v.92, they can't cost more than a buck or two to manufacture.
