Opera problems on this Board

Since I have turned off redirection, it loads correctly for me.

Testing:

When I loaded this forum today, it loaded ok. Hit ctrl+G, refreshed, and it reloaded itself about 3 to 5 times before it stopped. Hit ctrl+g again, refresh, and it refreshed several more times before stopping.

Turned off images, hit refresh, only loaded once. Turned them back on, hit refresh, loaded once also.

Then I closed opera, reopened it, and the forum loaded fine on the first try. I'll test auto redirection later.

Still using 6.0. If I turn off images while screen is jittering it will load properly without images. I turn images on refresh and it will load properly with images.Refresh again and it start jittering again.

I can confirm that turning off redirection does not work, or at least not anymore.

hmm, the worst of the problems seemed to have started after I did a windows update(XP at home and for 2k at work)

so...
I just update my java(sun) from 1.3 to 1.4.1 beta, and the forums are seem to be working properly now....

did the MS update screw up suns java runtime?

PS sun java is bundled with opera, but I always download them separately..

But the forum forums does not use Java, AFAIK.

I still think this is an Opera/burst.net issue. Opera seems to handle poor connections in a different way than the other browsers, and sometimes this seems to cause troubles. We all know how "good" MURCs host is, and the fact that many people don't have the problem at work, where they are behind a Proxy server (or at least on a REALLY phat line) hints to the same.

I think Opera support is/will be reading this thread, so keep it going

I couldn't connect to the forum today, Opera reported the host was down? I turned off auto redirect & it worked fine.

I love Opera, quirks and all.

Well the forums may not use java...but all the reloading stuff has stopped for me. so I would think getting the latest opera and java could not hurt. I was running the latest opera already, but not the latest java when I was getting the problesm

6.04 and java 1.4.1 works for me....try it

edit: no it doen't work
it seemed to work for a few days, then it went back to being as bad as usual...

I have been using it without java and have the problem. Turning off images seem to help.

I´m having the same problem at work as at home.
40 Mbit through proxy at work, adsl at home.

Are you sure you're connected through a real proxy at work.


If I use a proxy (at home) Murc loads fine no problem at all, but when I disable the proxy I'm getting problems, pages half loading and the loop problem. So I guess it's a timing issue?

Can someone maybe confirm my findings. It's very easy to test just setup a proxy and fill in the proxy settings in Opera and test Murc. You can disable/enable the proxy very easely just press F12 and you will get the quick prefernce menu here you can simply disable/enable the proxy.

Opera Support here - thank you for feedback in this thread. I have been able to reproduce the problem, but so far not been able to deduct any reason for it. It would be great if someone could skip over to http://bugs.opera.com/bugreport.cgi and file a bug report, and I will bring it to the relevant developers' attention and see what they have to say. Thanks again for your documentation of the problem!

What seems to help (in my case, Opera 6.0 on W2K), is clicking the "image loading icon". The blue one in the upper left corner of a document window, it has three settings (plain blue, with blue arrow and with red cross).

Setting this to the second option seems to eliminate the problem of the page reloading. However, some images appear to be missing (certain smilies: frown, wink, cool, eek!, mad, Alien, ....

PS: I have the problem both on my very fast connection at work (with only a Linux firewall between me and the internet) and on my 56K dialup connection at home.

I'll post some updates here in ~6 hours, when I get home again, and I'll file a bug report if nobody does until then

Jörg: the second setting menas "display cached images only", so certain images are not displayed because they are not in your cache. I've found that once the page loaded completely, you can click the button again, and opera will reload all images (without reloading the page)
