Quick question here...is anyone running into problems getting the MSI 745 Ultra or any of the other SIS AMD based boards? Reason I ask is that newegg.com doesnt have any SIS 745 boards listed and they have the ECS SIS 735 Board listed as a blowout price. Reason I ask is that I need to get one for a friend who wants to put together a computer.

I wouldn't opt for anyother SIS 745 based solutions if OCing is a concern. MSI 745 Ultra is well noted as being the creme da la creme.

Also note that MSI will shortly have SIS 746 chipset MB out sporting USB2.0 etc

Yup...the SiS 735 and 745 are at the end of their life cycle, so most makers will be moving on to new models using the SiS 746.

Many of these SiS 746 boards will have the new SiS 963 south bridge which has a 1066 mb/s pipe between the north and south bridges. This will up their PCI performance yet another notch over VIA which only recently caught up with SiS's 533 mb/s pipe

As for overclocking: why bother when even the high end AMD CPU's are so cheap?

I have not kept up to date on MSI information. Care to elaborate on this little piece of information?

The USB2.0, embedded IEEE-1394 and ATA133 features belong to the SiS 963 Southbridge, not the SiS 746 NorthBridge, but indeed they should mostly be seen paired.

SiS 746 supports AGP8x and together they support MuTOIL 1G.

Later this year comes the SiS 964 Southbridge, which features SerialATA, ATA150, IPB ADSL etc. The SiS 964b then gets IEEE 802.11b wireless networking support.

For those who want to see where SiS is going check out THG's article on the Shuttle AS45 V1.2 (SiS 648) P4 board, which uses the SiS 963 SB;

Looks like Shuttle's board will be hot, hot, HOT in that it'll have DDR400, both IEEE-1394 and USB2.0 cables as well as both parallel ATA and SerialATA connects on the mainboard. Overclockers should love having reset and power buttons built into the mainboard

VIA/ALi, nVIDIA & co. have lots to worry about....

Guess I should have been more specific. I was looking for information on the upcoming MSI board that's going to be released based on the SiS 746 chipset.

so I'm now up and running with my new MSI 745. Thing runs great. 1600+ 512 pc2700 ram.

Bios 1.5 is good and bad.... it shows your agp and pci frequencies now when you change the front side bus. But, whether I'm at 133 or 166 it will revert to 100 after a reboot..not good.

On that note the 1600+ runs as a 2200+ at default core settings when I bump it to 166fsb.... however UT and 3dmark freeze after a minute.... so I'm not sure if the AGP is really running at 66Mhz. Just so you know I have tried upping the voltage to both 1.75 and 1.85, didn't make a difference. and at 1.65 it did at least a hundred loops of sandra burn in without a problem.
