I have an Asus A7V 266-E and from what I understand the newer Alpha heatsink won't fit properly. What other good heatsinks would you consider? Thanks!

I was thinking of just getting the retail 2100+ with the stock HS/FAN since I really want to build a Hammer system and pour my money into that. Is the stock HS/fan that bad?

I'm sure there are bether coolers on the market but the ones I have been using at work latley are the CoolJag JAC-656A since you can get them real cheap and they cool a bit bether then the stock cooler and is very quiet! Another good cooler is the volcano 7+According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless..

I have a Volcano9, just installed it and it's AWESOME. Can be loud if you run it at max. RPM, but boy is it nice.
The stock HSF that comes with high speed Athlons is CRAP. Utter garbage. Many users report loaded temperatures above 65', and the tolerance is 70'!
Get a good cooler. Thermaltake makes great coolers. The Volcano 7, 7cu, 7+, or 9 are all great units, and it's $25 well spent.

I'm using the stock HS/fan. At the moment one of my case fans is shot to hell, so my case is about 7 degrees hotter than normal. With this funky setup, I see CPU/case temps of 50/35 while unloaded, and 62/43 ish after keeping the system busy a while.
I'm not going to bother with another HS/fan until I first get around to unlocking this thing. I have all the gear, just not the time.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Vocano 9 and I'm seeing 38C-44C (depending on load) with an AthlonXP 2000+ (not OC'ed). Thermal compound is Arctic Silver 3.

I've got a Volcano 9. My case is dynamatted to hell (in other words, HOTTER THAN A RAGING INFERNO), and my loaded temperatures never break 55'. With the top off the case (or adequate venting) they would be almost 10' cooler.

Not too much louder than the stock fan at 4000rpm.
Louder than a jumbo jet at 5500rpm (its top speed is NOT 4800rpm, all those specs are wrong)...

I agree on thermaltake volcano´s. They´re loud, but any half-decent-non-OEM-crap cooler is loud to. If you don´t want noise with today HOT cpu´s you better go with water.
My 7+ wasn´t very easy to install, but it does cool decentely at lower noise settings, being almost bearable, and it is way cheaper than similar eficient solutions.
Zalman coolers do look nice, are silent (so is a V9 on lowest RPM, 17db is almost inaudible) but arent very efficient at all.Comment
