I think you should type "ipconfig" on Win2k & WinXP to get the same thing as "winipcfg" does on Win9x. -
i like ipconfig better...
granted, thats cause IP config works and doesn't take forever and a day to report back that DHCP isn't working...

Winipcfg for W2K, NT, etc etc has been available from MS since loong before the release of W2K.....If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

Er...Windows has had a CLI for it's entire history as well. The point is that Windows is now tending towards GUI-everything, whereas plenty of us just like a quick command to do something. GUIs still rule in plenty of areas of usability though, but if the CLI equivalent is better, then I'll use thatSilly git, I don't know what old days you're thinking of...... Linux has had command prompt forever, but you'd be refering to Dos, which had crap for networking.

Leech: Nothing wrong with your post per se, but what was wrong with Byock posting that? CLI tends to be associated with the old days, GUI with the new - whatever OS.
TP: Not if it's a dynamic IP mate, then ipconfig will show you what IP you've been allocated to whatever adaptor you wish.

I think your missing my point Pace. I'm saying it's a logical place to put a gui. It then could show all info like how long it's had the lease subnet masks etc and so on. Doesn't really matter if it's static or not.
Windoze 98 has a gui okay from the run command but then you go to win2k and XP and it disappears back to old dos window. Seems a backward step.Comment

Ah, ok TP, it sounded like you thought it was in there. As for ipconfig though, there are *loads* of Microsoft commands I'd like to have in the GUI. Netstat being one of them, ideally with options to show you connections sorted by port number, IP, status etc. I have a GUI netstat, but it's simply the command one shown in a window, with a nice formatted table (brill...
< />).
And, on the converse, it would be nice to have CLI equivalents of standard GUI stuff. I can't think of any off hand, I'm sure there's loads though.
Ah, touch is one I created a touch.cmd a while ago, which simple copies a blank file called "0" from the system32 directory into whatever location you type the command <tt>touch test.txt</tt> from for instance.
