Plextor Japan announced today a new SCSI recorder with the codename "PX-W4012TS". It supports 40X writing, 12X re-writing, 40X reading, 4MB buffer, BURN-Proof, Mt. Rainier (and EasyWrite) and of course Ultra SCSI (SCSI-3) interface!...

Nothing wrong with 12rw
Hopefully a few more will bring out scsi drives. Used scsi for years and never created a coaster despite loading programmes up etc but when I needed a replacement I couldn't get hold off a scsi burner.

there is no media available yet that supports more than 12X RW i believe but a bit more'd still be nice

anyway sounds very nice, my ultraplex 32x feels pretty lonely on the scsi chain and that'd also mean one less cable running through the tower.

I'm afraid I might have to put a little damper on this (I've known Plex had this in the wings for a while).
I don't know for sure (think trying to squeeze blood from stone), but don't think it's likely that it will be a "true" SCSI drive -it will be like the Yamahas, only with the SCSI converter electronics on the drives PCB, rather than a "true" SCSI drive (AFAIK, Plex have not designed their own chipset, and Sanyo (the usual suppliers for Plex) do not have a SCSI chipset for these speeds either).

I'd love to be proved wrong, but that is what I have heard ATM.

Well, it's good to see Plextor hasn't abandoned the format. Right now I'm quite satisfied with my PlexWriter 12/10/32S. Plextor and SCSI are musts if you are putting together any sort of "ultimate" system.
