P.S. Loaded question, since 99.99% of all media players out there just use DirectShow, which is... WMP!

Switched to WM9 to test MSPro 7, whch has the WM9 encoder built into it. Not bad....lotsa profiles and decent quality.

Won't ever give up 6.4 Tried 7.0 once and it was awful, big disgusting button, the frame of the player took just as much room as the video window itself, yuck! Why do they always have to ruin the players when they make newer versions? Same with real-player, nothing above 8.1 will be simple enough. Not to mention the super-lame winamp 3.x...
