BSOD's galore in XP SP1

I don't recall the specifics, but there WERE some touchiness issues with that motherboard. Jammrock could tell you better - he has one.

Could it be because of the temperature inside the case now you have two cpus in there? You said the core temps were rather high. You could log temps using eg MBM5 and see if there is a relationship. My 8500 gets pretty hot (but not as hot as my Parhelia)!!

Also, is it worth considering the fact that your cpus are XPs and not MPs?

This is true. I've said it before, but XP chips are not verified to always work as MP chips. It's extra work for AMD, which is part of what you pay for with the premium.

My XP chips are old ones. No mod was needed as the L5 bridges were not cut. Does that help?

No, it doesn't. It's still a crapshoot, and you may be on the loosing end.
Have you tried uni-processor?

Yah. If you start the system up uniprocessor and things work, it's DEFINITELY the chips... or something about the SMP implementation.

ok - I will modify the boot.ini indefinatley and see if i notice any improvement.

No, that won't cut it. You have to <I>physically</I> disable one of the chips. If one of the chips can't handle running MP, it may "go rogue" whether or not you think you're leaving it idle.

Actually, changing the boot.ini may let you know if it's a software problem.

I had no problems at all toady - whatsoever.
Then, i suddenly noticed that I had my mates knackered HD showing up in My Computer.

I had used it to salvage what data I could from my dead HD. I went to format it and after a few mins got a BSOD.

I feel like such an eejit. I hope that was causing all my problems!

OK I have had problems again today.

I have had four BSODs since last night.

• 2x IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL
• Your computer has been shutdown to prevent damage....
• INFINATE LOOP

Bugger.

Still, I think this points to the 8500???

I am going to try another set of drivers.

Are you still using both processors atm? Or have you physically removed one processor like Wombat suggested.

Yes I am... I used the /onepcu switch for the boot ini for a day but everything seemed slow. I dont want to remove the CPU too often as one of the clips to attach the HSF is broken.
