    Web Mail?

My girlfriend is about to go to Europe for a month and needs a way to keep in touch that doesn't cost 60p+ a minute.

She's asked me to find her a decent web mail account, as most of the hostels she'll be in will have free web access.

Can anyone recommend a good (ie low spam) free web mail account?

Would we just be best with a hotmail account with the maximum security settings and an address book with only those people she will want to talk to in?

    Suggestions?

I believe that hotmail has a secret inbuilt function that makes the SPAM scale with your real mail, so that the ratio will be about the same no matter how many mail you get; in favor of the SPAM of course.

I once opened a hotmail account and didn't telly anyone about the address nor did i use the mail anywhere. Sure enough the next day i got some penis enlargement and musclegainer SPAM in my inbox.

      They're devils, those spammers.

Although how much spam can she get in a month? Silly question I know

it's worth checking that your isp doesn't offer webmail for your normal email address - mine does, and even across the other side of the world it was far far quicker than hotmail (I use FreeUK - dialup then but same applies for its broadband service...)

Otherwise, just go for the hotmail address and "retire" it at the end of the month... and just delete without reading any spam that gets in there (shouldn't be too much at the beginning).

Why didn't I think of that?

Just had a look at tesco.net, and they do webmail so problem solved.

          Yay

I have two web mail accounts. One @ hotmail which I get 150+ spam emails a DAY and the other @ Bolt (www.bolt.com) which I get ONE spam a WEEK (and that's only because I gave my email address away to some obscure site).

I heard that Bigfoot is pretty good too, low spam and what not.

Yup - use the tesco one - just remember when you connect not to download all the emails from her account on the server!

And for future reference, Yahoo has good free e-mail, and they filter their spam well. I've gotten about 3 spam mails total in the last 6 months.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I tend to use talk21 and haven't had any spam.

I have a "backup" Yahoo mail account for various reasons, and the only spam I've ever gotten was Yahoo related, and only once or twice. I'd say just go with Yahoo.

By the way talk21.com email has hardly been down all the time I've been using it. I think about twice in three or four years.

Well it's been my personal experience that my Hotmail account gets no spam that is not MicroSoft related...Maybe I'm just lucky...
