Getting XP's IE to access HTTP via port 21

If you try to go to http://www.somesite.com:21 IE in XP doesn't even try - win2k and earlier are fine.

Any help anyone?

Just a guess, port 21 is a well known port(FTP) and it probably shouldn't be used to send HTTP traffic. Maybe IE actually follows some kind of....standard :0

yeah, it's a firewall thing - I have a 2nd website on my PC at work which is running over port 21. Now I'm using XP on my laptop and .net server on my PC I can't access it

no, it works fine if I use any OS apart from XP/.net - win2k works fine anyway.

Que? That's tres bizarre. AFAIK XP isn't doing anything special, make sure you don't have XP's "firewall" enabled.
