What do I need with such a thing? Mind blowing speed!!! It's always great to make fun of everyone during a network party, and tell them "well, I'm waiting for everyone else, hurry up!" Actually Byock and Scumhawk both have 10k rpm scsi drives, so it's not just that. And I do think that Scumhawk's drive is a bit louder than mine. He has two in his (36gb and 73gb) that are both 10krpm drives.

It's cool when my PC gets really hot inside, 'cause then those smartfans speed up and make a nice airplane like noise

YES, Power Supplies are noisy. But I have a great news for you guys. I never had a problem with my new rig that has SEASONIC PSU, it's SO QUIET that I don't really know if PC is on or not.
HERE I'm using Seasonic 400W PSU and I can't be more satisfied than this.!! Enermax PSU is very noisy from what I heard. So go with Seasonic. You won't ever regret.

OK I admit I said you don't need a ton of case fans unless you have SCSI, and of course, you have SCSI!

Then you have to ask yourself, what do you want SCSI for? Of course your 10,000 rpm drives are noisy!

Unless you are running a server, why do you want SCSI drives for? A good quality 7200 rpm IDE drive will be a lot quieter and a lot cooler so you can dump the case fans too!

You won't notice the slower speed in a gaming rig, of course if u are running a server or heavy video editing maybe you want your SCSI drives in that, but then why take it to a LAN party?

Lots of recommendations already in this thread for kit that would be more than good enough for a gaming / lan party rig and a LOT quiter than your setup :-)

I just like SCSI. Besides, I do have SCSI in my server as well (and that thing is pretty damned loud too.) SCSI is also very useful when you mutli-task as many things as I do. Most of the time I have at least 5 or more things running. Plus boot time is a dream when all the systray things all boot at once

as you can see in the thread,, I discovered that at least 1 casefan to extract the warmed air from the case is vital

Right now I'm running the same config listed there, with the only differences being a Thermalright SLK800U heatsink, and 2 Zalman 80 mm fans (1 case fan, the other on the Thermalright, both running at about 5 VDC, nearly inaudible).

The SCSI HDD is very quiet, as long as you add the rubber suspension kit, since the seeks are noisy without it.

also check www.silentpcreview.com for quiet pc resources. www.thermalright.com for a CPU heatsink (don't get anything other than one from thermalright, they are _the_ best ones on the market atm for aircooling).

I don't quite understand the bagging the Enermax PSUs are getting here. Perhaps the older ones are loud or whatever.

I know there are quieter PSUs out there but you'll pay a premium for them. I didn't realise we were talking about systems with 10,000rpm SCSI drives and Parhelias. You guys are obviously loaded so I'll withdraw my recommendation, and advise you spend up big on the best damn PSUs on the market.

To anyone who might be reading this and doesn't have deep pockets for computer hardware, I recommend that you at least listen to an Enermax Whisper. I think it's the best-bang-for-buck PSU you can get.
