I just figured out how to take my entire notebook apart. I got down to the heatsink covering my cpu and graphics card. I stopped there, because I wasn't sure of something. Can I reuse the same heatsink once I take it off the motherboard? I read somewhere that I wouldn't be able to, but I did it in school, and there were other sources hinting I could. So can I safely use it over if I take it off? I want to look at my graphics card and see if it's a removable AGP card or if it's built into the board.

It depends whether the heatsink is "glued" on the chip or not and whether the chip is soldered on the mainboard.
The risk is that you damage a soldered part.Comment
