        Nvidia.

        Cheaters unite!

Seriously, Leech was the biggest foe's of NV since they came out, to hear him now think of getting one, just blows the mind.

I have owned several NV cards, and have nothing against them.

Hey, the only reason I am thinking of getting one is due to lack of any TRUE support of any other graphics card manufacturer for the *nix operating systems.

I DO have something against the nVidia cards I've seen in the past, their IQ on 2D sucks monkey nuts!! Especially after getting use to the crisp display that Matrox cards offer.

Oh, and for the record, if I were defending nVidia so much, why at the end do I ask when the X800 is getting linux support? I'd PREFER to get an ATI card, because I know their IQ is great, but I don't want to get a card that has a driver situation just like the Parhelia (worse, the Windows drivers blow too!)

                Exactly Chrono...

Yeah, I'm such a big fan of nVidia... NOT. I still have my Matrox Parhelia, and in all likely hood will either wait until Matrox releases another triple-head card (or at the least someone else does, that supports surround gaming) or I may just upgrade to the P8X. All I ask for is some decent linux drivers! Unfortunately at this point in time, nVidia is the only company that supports linux well. And for that matter, the ONLY one that supports FreeBSD.

Yeah I am with leech, nvidia gets my next video card $$ purely becasue of its linux support.

haha, I know ATI has cheated in the past. I am not a fan boy one way or the other, I am quite pleased with my 9800 Pro, but would move to NV if they had a superior product.

As for nix, bah, who cares about video driver support. Do what I do, use it as a Server, as that is what it was designed for, and excels at.

Sorry, but for normal desktop use (Web Browsing, Word Processing, email, etc.) The DE's for *nix kick the crap out of windows in usability! And they look a lot nicer too! They're far easier to lock stuff up that you need to, and best yet.. you don't need to baby sit new computer users to make sure they don't get virii!

Besides, Byock, I know what systems you use as servers, and you don't even use Linux for that! Pinhead, using IIS for serving people... *laughs* ONE apache server would be FAR more stable and dependable than 10 IIS together (or however many you've ended up setting up).

Oh yeah, what about that sasser worm giving you all those headaches?

As a side note, the Unices weren't just built for servers, they were built also as development platforms and for... oh yeah, that thing calld work. You should know by now the great unix philosophy of having one program for one task, but that program does that task well. Of course, with so many different desktop environments and various word processors, the unix philosophy has kind of faded into the background for most things, which is a shame... oh well, LONG LIVE THE CLI! :-D Plain and simple some things are much easier/faster from the command line. But then on the other hand, many things (like web browsing, though Lynx does rule) are better through GUI. With windows, the CLI blows, and you're left with a cludgy GUI. With Gnome/KDE/Fluxbox/Window Maker/XFCE, etc... You have many different setups you can use, but always, you can depend on having a great CLI. The *nix operating systems are very versatile and should be used for more than just a server!

I wish ATI had good Linux drivers too cause I'm going to get a 9800Pro. All I want to do is play HL2 though, so unless a miracle happens then I won't be playing it in Linux anyways, but if that miracle happens then maybe the same miracle will give us good drivers. I just need good 2D and working 3D (doesn't have to be efficient) in Linux.

New linux ati driver is available (3.9), looks like it does not do much for 3d speed, but apparently does tweak up 2d speed noticeably, and the release notes seem to tout TV out and dual head modes as features (dual, stretched and clone)

having said that, the guys at rage3d don't seem to impressed...They might be encroaching on our copyrighted Soon tm, for the release of the "good" ati drivers soon.
