    HL2 Question

I got one of those free half-life 2 coupons with my AIW 9600 PRO, but i was thinking...when the Game comes out and you have all these people hitting Valve's Steam servers...its not gonna be pretty. Will there be alternative sites to download it from?
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

In theory, and if memory serves me correctly, Steam should also act like a P2P network. Meaning Steam's won't be the only server pushing the HL2 package. But the P2P feature may have been removed, I haven't messed with Steam in a while.

All Valve really needs to do is hire Akamai to host it and they're set.

I think this is what Wombat was referring http://isc.incidents.org/

Trying to figure out why, I found an interesting article on the front page at http://isc.incidents.org/. Seems that the problems at Akamai are screwing over Yahoo, Google, Microsoft, Fedex,...

Steam preloads software before release. CS:CZ was cached to computers before you could buy it. That way the system could handle the load. Also they rent extra servers when there is a major update or release.

Don't worry your coupon will be invalid by then if the game ever sees the light of day.
