    Dialup Web Accelerators?

    Earthlink, my parent's dial-up ISP, has one of those web accelerator software packages. Is it worth installing on my parent's computer?

          Most of them do more damage than good

          The best "accelerator" for dialup is if the modem is serial to set the serial port to 115000 instead of the 9600 that is standard
          If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

              See sig, select "show cached images only" (hit g to cycle through image display modes - "show images" loads all images).

              Or use an ad-blocker.

                  Make sure you have a good hardware modem instead (such as US Robotics) of Winmodem.

                  In my experience, my ISA US Robotics was able to achieve better speeds on same lines as generic hardware or winmodems.

                          I've used the Earthlink Web Accelerator, and it and hte Netzero one actually DO increase surfing speed. It compresses stuff a bit more and images CAN look worse. Don't expect faster downloads of your windows updates though... not much help with that.
                          Wikipedia and Google.... the needles to my tangent habit.
