New Linux drivers from ATI.... (they still suck..)

Ati has just released a new version of their exellent linux drivers.. .. cough cough..

Yes its still in RPM, so lets all rejoice.. NOT..

AMD delivers leadership high-performance and adaptive computing solutions to advance data center AI, AI PCs, intelligent edge devices, gaming, & beyond.

I considered to post this in alternative os.. forum, but I rather consider this to be on the hardware.. so if I am totally wrong, just move it

Same here They're drivers work great, and the new nvidia driver supposedly increases performance (at least in Doom 3) by a crapload, making it very comparable to the Windows version. Let's see ATI even get their drivers to WORK with Doom 3....

Looks like the fixed some of the problems with Doom 3, anyone tested it yet?

            Yup suck big time.

Supported cards in the readme X800 series. Install the driver sorry cannot find supported card you'll have to do it manually on reboot.

Reboot and Xserver is crashed. Time for bed thanks ATI.

Until people like ATI create properly tested drivers Linux won't take over the desktop.

At least ATI's drivers officially support 2.6.x kernels, Matrox still hasn't released one that does! That's the ONLY reason I bought an nVidia card, for the linux support. I could have cared less about everything else. Unfortunately my eyes are paying for it....

Yeh but its disapointing that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is supporting.

                Shoddy workmanship.

Sadly it looks like suse 9.1 won't work with the X800.

Did a clean install and got a garbled screen. Setup the graphics from the command line and it worked once. This is without the non supportive ATI drivers.

Restarted and the X server died again. Time to scrap it.

Give Ubuntu linux a try, once installed, you should only have to go into synaptic and look for fglrx and download the modules. Pretty clean and sweet setup as well (it installs Gnome by default, but you can have KDE as well)

No point in running the ATI drivers they don't support the X800XT PE. Well thats what the drivers say whatever the readme says.

Interesting an ATI chat mentions a special package for suse. Pity it's not in release notes.
