    The tricky thing is usually when you send in a drive thats under warranty, they just throw it out and give you a new one.

      Well they do have this disclaimer on their website:

      If you return your drive to Seagate, your original drive will NOT be returned, and all data and software on your drive will be lost. You will be sent a factory repaired replacement drive. If you need the data on your drive, you may want to consider data recovery services.
      And those services cost a lot...



      I'll try the freezer procedure, if it works, hurray! After that I'll RMA it.
