It should be very reliable, but if you ever want to upgrade, hope your credit card is ready for the impact.
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

I think it is fine as it is!

I'll be on the lookout for another pair of CPUs.
Anyone used one of these before?

I am hoping to be able to use PATA raid as the total 81GB of SCSI is not nearly enough...

yeah.. the wife's not to happy... but i'll live

I need to figure out if/how I can mount a PATA RAID array in there (The SCSI disks are expendable) and then to decide on what OS to use.

I know that as it is only a dual P2 400 xeon, I should go with a flavour of linux, but part of me is itching to use a MS Server OS I just think that it will cripple the server.... ... perhaps if i used quad P2 500MHz Xeon chips.....

A MS OS is not an option for you. You said you wanted RAID 5, and you'll only get that in Windows if you buy a hardware RAID 5 controller card.

also, I am thinking about replacing the three 9gb drives with 18.2 gb, so that i can have a raid5 array with all six drives... is that possible? I have seen a couple on ebay that expire in a day or so...

for desktops, all it took was a bios update, not sure about your beast

There are actually several auctions ending soon for Xeons you may be able to use
