personally, I think they all suck really bad. None of them are worth the money. The quality is horrible. I'd recommend buying a real camcorder. Even the cheapest ones are 10X better than the best webcam. I think you cna find camcorders for about 200 dollars these days.
Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.

can you use them to stream video via say an AIW card? Can this then be used for video conferencing?
The Welsh support two teams when it comes to rugby. Wales of course, and anyone else playing England

Try axis company. super webcams with super image quality. Much better than philips, sony, intel etc. webcams. Very proffessional webcams that can be connected by LAN (micro computer inside with owne memory etc.).

Many new cameras can actually stream over USB (or firewire)...

okie just in case, let me suggest the Logitech Series from the budget "Quickcam Messenger", mid-range "Quickcam Zoom" to the slightly more expensive "Quickcam Pro 4000".
I think that the "Quickcam Sphere" while looking nice and working well it is very much a luxury item and just too expensive to recommend its use for casual video/chatting.

I've had the "Quickcam Pro 4000". It's pretty good overall, although the initial software the came with it was buggy. It's a pretty fast cam, and it's pretty clear.

Those Axis cams are pricey, I was looking around for a webcam (wanted one that worked with linux) and that one came up. There were some that went into the thousands.... but of course those were security cams.

I've got AXIS 200 at home, very nice webcam with some own OS inside. I connect it just by LAN & got everything configurable from my internet web browser. Ofcours config can be secured by password & it was the cheapest model when we get this. I strongly reccomend axis because the quality of picture & stablke work of that little. Besides it may work with turned off computer & this is great! (it even got COM port for modems etc.).

if you don't want to spend to much money, get a sony eyetoy, and download the hacked drivers. Picture quality is quite good for the money, better then the logitechs and stuff, no noise and stuff...
