Is using TCP/IP for IPC a normal thing?

Was reading some stuff over at Rage3D when I discovered that

The CCC uses TCP/IP for local host communication between the CLI.EXE's (server, client and the taskbar) so if your firewall was messed up then so would the CCC.

Perhaps I'm just behind the times or old fashioned or something, but that just seems odd considering what the CCC's used for.

That sounds wrong to me. Your firewall is blocking incoming NOT within.

I'm not having a problem of course since I don't use CCC with my 8500 (it's horribly slow on my 1.4 GHz system,) I just thought it was a tad strange to be using TCP/IP to communicate between processes on the same system.

Well I guess there really is no place like 127.0.0.1.

IIRC, there is something in .NET that requires TCP-based communication...in this case, the application is just using loopback (if they've done it correctly...).

Next month, I'm going to a big .NET/IIS/Win2K3 class, I'll make sure to ask the Microsofties there about it.
