The issue is wheher I will be able to watch the High Definition DVD's for example through win dvd on to a computer screen that is non HDMI compliant. (sorry i mean HDCP)

Oh ok...my crystal ball is foggy about this but what are people going to do that already have HDTV's with out a HDMI/HDCP input? Trash them so they can get a HD-DVD player? Sure there is. Cable can look pretty crappy so GIGO applies here. Try DVD playback on a PC with DVI output to your DLP. You'll probably have to set up your DLP for the proper overscan.
