WooWoo 19" FP Monitor at work

Well, I just got a 19" Phillips Brilliance 190P at work to replace the old 17" "Eye Bleeder" for my "old" eyes.

I'm running this with a radeon mobility 7500 from my laptop. 1280 x 1024, 32bit, 70Hertz

Since this is my first FP experience what are some quick tips for making text look better.

Let's say I'm not overly impressed with the image quality on this monitor............

You can also fine tune ClearType by using the ClearType Tuner.

I disagree about using ClearType, I never liked the look on CRTs, and I don't think it helps any.

Also, switch to 1280x960, not 1024. You have a 4:3 monitor, run it at a 4:3 resolution (text will look less squashed, among other things).

Old/cheap monitors tend to blur as you increase their refresh rate. Raise it to whatever is comfortable to you, and not higher (personally, I need 75-85Hz minimum).

I tried ClearType on our Samsung CRT, it actually made me nauseous after a while. XP seems to have horrible font handling.

I use a Phillips Brilliance 109P CRT monitor and find that ClearType makes a great deal of difference.
I guess it just depends on what CRT monitor you use!

Same with this 19" ClearType is a must.

cleartype... i've only seen it work good on bad lcd:s and high resolution lcd:s. If I use it on my 19" lcd text is all fuzzy and makes it hard for my eyes to focus. It works with large fonts but not with small. Is there something wrong with me?

Cleartype is meant for monitors connected via DVI only. When connected in analogue way it is unable to work as it should...

I use dvi and some text just look bad. Especially small italic fonts. Without cleartype text is much sharper, although not as "smooth".

Well of course it's not so sharp, but more smooth. That's the whole point behind Cleartype. If it's looking bad to you...
