So how do you guys like it? How is the speed? What sucks about it?

Don't have a DVD burner at work. Have to wait until I get home to burn a disc and install it. I'll let you know when I get it on my laptop, which is currently the only computer I have that can handle it (1.4 GHz P-M, 1 GB RAM, 64 MB ATi Radeon Mobile 9000).

The speed is not bad, considering I'm running it in VMWare on top of XP on a P4 2.8GHz. I've given the VM 384MB of ram, and it's still doing decently.

I really don't like the new windows explorer, but I'm not sure yet if I'm just not used to it, or if it's really just crap.

IE7 is nicer than IE6. Very basic tab support. I still prefer Avant Browser on top of IE6.

Overall, it seems like just a dumbed down version of XP. Extra layers of abstraction over everything. It'll probably piss off most power users until we can figure out the best way to turn off the crap, and leave in any new useful features. I'm sure there's some in there somewhere.

Perhaps they ought to release VistaPW. Vista for the power user with all the memory eating and processor eating garbage thrown out.

At least deployment is getting easier. This may make Ghost obsolete.

Each company will no doubt have a master root certificate that can unlock all the data in the enterprise for use by IT staff. Not even MS is dumb enough to not have a master root certificate. Of course, this assumes that the corporation is smart enough to build an enterprise root CA server...

BTW, just got my hands on, in a very legitimate way, the DVD ISO for Vista Beta 1... it's 2.5 GB!!!!

My opinion is based on about 15 minutes playing with B1, so I'm sure I'll get used to some of it given time. I'm also aware that B2 is the one that'll really show what Vista is going to be like at release. It usually takes me several days to warm up to a new interface, so my opinion is certainly not final yet.

hehe.

some of the UI does take time to adjust to. some of it is incredably powerful once you get used to it. some of it is just plain fugly.

on the plus side, LDDM is working out pretty good.
