Sony scales back PlayStation 3 launch plans

just spotted this little nugget over at ars...

Nevertheless, the US launch will feature only 400,000 machines, while the Japanese launch will have only 100,000, according to an AP Report.
Well, with the Wii on its way, and seeing as we had ready supplies of the XBox 360... While the Americans might be happier with the larger number at launch, I doubt the locals will be so forgiving.

Wouldn't it be wiser to reverse proportions? I think US marked is pretty much loast for PS3 (at most it will be head on with Xbox...), but it's a bit weird to turn back to Japan...

Remember we're talking about Sony, the 'shot itself in the foot' company

Sony's marketing strategy lately seems to be "what can we do to drive the company into ruin the fastest?"
