Was there ever any doubt that this would happen. MS should have made the hard choice and scrapped the entire IE code-base, choosing an existing (up-to-date) rendering engine like Apple did with Safari and KHTML, and then focusing on building a solid offering around that.

Even with MS' (supposed) rewrite of Windows with Vista, this is why I have little hope that it will be much better off than previous versions. Of course, an IE exploit was almost expected given that there was going to be a lot of people trying to show that it was just as exploitable as before.

No software is unsusceptible to exploits, that much is a given, but you have to take into account the number and frequency of exploits as well as the vendors response to them. IE has always and shall likely continue to receive failing marks in that regard.

My point was more that MS is supporting an archaic rendering engine, that itself is full of holes, in addition to all the other cruft that is IE. They can hardly keep the rendering engine updated for the very reason that any time the developers are given goes to fixing bugs and patching holes.

What does the validation do? My XP is already activated yet I.E. 7 needs to activate? WTF?

Does this use up an activation?

Tried it on a dual Xeon 3.4Ghz with 2GB ram system and IE7.0 is very fast.
I'll keep it running for a while.

Knee jerk reporting yesterday, the exploit is not in IE7 but Outlook Express, getting fanboys to accept that though is pointless.
