    Best Speed CD-ROM I've ever tested!

    Hey All,

    Just thought I'd write and let you know that I've just recently tested a very (repeat Very) fast CDROM drive.

    The Kenwood 52X True-X ATAPI / Ultra SCSI (2 different products) are among the fastest drives I've every worked with.

    I'll try and get some benchmark numbers, although it only took around 2.5 minutes to copy the entire Windows98SE cdrom to an already full hard drive.
    Gaming Rig.

              Any of you have problems with CD Drives that spin too fast? My brother was listening to a CD on a 48x drive and sometimes it would skip.

                      Negative - no problems. Windows 98 detected it with no problems at all.

                          That's the cool thing about the Kenwood drive, it only spins at 20x or 24x speed. This also reduces that annoying whine.
                          Multiple lasers are cool.

                          Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

                              Yeah, this ZEN technology is cool. The CD doesn't have to actually spin @ 52X. The drive uses 7 Laser beams and a custom ASIC to read multiple tracks simultaneously and merge them into a single data stream. Couple that with a 2MB buffer and watch out... WooHoo... This thing hauls @$$....

                              Windows 95 may require a driver download from Kenwood. DOS drivers are available, however a generic ATAPI driver should work. Windows 98 built in drivers just plain work.

                                  Well I had to get another CD Rom to to finish another system for my Brother Inlaw. So I indulged myself and picked up one of these Kenwoods (I'm such a Slut). Damn they are FAST!!!!
